Volunteers from St. Joseph's provide two worship experiences at the North Carolina Correctional Institute for Women. Approximately four times a year, they lead a large worship service for the general population and the minimum security facility that includes music, scripture, a modified liturgy, homily, and communion. Once a month, a volunteer group worships with the women in restricted housing, taking music, prayer, and communion. Volunteers also assist with the distribution of the Christmas meal and gifts.
In order to volunteer at NCCIW, one must complete a simple training conducted twice a year by the N.C. Department of Corrections and receive authorization to enter the facility. Anyone interested in joining this group should contact Vicar Lauren or Deacon Jan.
