On Thursday, November 4, a broad coalition of concerned citizens, faith leaders and children will march from Immaculate Conception Church to Saint Joseph’s Episcopal Church in support of decisive and urgent action on climate at the UN COP26 Summit.
The event will begin at 4 PM at Immaculate Conception with a live-streamed message from Glasgow from Br. Angelito Cortez, OFM, a friar from the Philippines representing Franciscans International. Other speakers will include Dr. Brian Murray, Interim Director of the Nicholas Institute & Duke University Energy Initiative, and local youth who wish to urge adults to protect our common home. Participants from Durham CAN, Duke University, Cristo Rey High School, the Durham Co-Op, Brogden Middle School, EK Powe, and numerous area churches will join the walk from West End to Old West Durham. The march will conclude at 5pm with a short prayer at Saint Joseph’s Episcopal Church. This walk is an act of embodied witness and care and concern for the planet, and a way to communicate to political leaders in Durham the widespread support for urgent action on climate.
