St Joe’s is partnering with the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham (RCND) to form a team to support someone recently released from prison. Briefly put, a St. Joe’s Team of 3-6 people will be meeting about twice a month with someone who has recently left prison. At these get-togethers, we’ll simply hang out for an hour to an hour and a half: we could cook, watch a television series, play board games, read a book together---any number of possible activities to be discerned by us together as a group. The ultimate goal is friendship, through and through, and valuing one another as human beings worthy of belonging and love. If you are interested in joining this team, there are two next steps: email Jenny Brown and Jeanine Driscoll to let them know of your interest and ask any questions (drj@drjeaninedriscoll.com and jennyclarkebrown21@gmail.com); and plan to attend an initial training session on Sunday, May 15th from 1 to 5 p.m., in the St. Joe's Parish House. Attending that training (which will be led by Drew Doll of the RCND) does not commit you to join the team, but you cannot join the team without formal RCND training. Our team would also appreciate your prayers -- for the team as it comes together, for the RCND, and for the potential reentry partner we might be matched with.
